Instagram post size: the ratios that fit
The aspect ratios Instagram keeps, the width it stores, what happens outside them, and the size its ads guide recommends.
First brand read free. No filming.
The short answer
Instagram stores feed photos up to 1080 pixels wide and keeps ratios between 1.91:1 (landscape) and 4:5 (portrait), which at 1080 wide means a height between 566 and 1350 pixels. Photos outside that range are cropped to fit. For the most screen space use 4:5 at 1080 x 1350; Meta’s ads guide recommends 1440 x 1800 for feed images.
