TikTok video size: ratio and specs
The aspect ratio TikTok recommends, the minimum resolution, formats and file size from TikTok’s own ad specs, and where to keep text.
First brand read free. No filming.
The short answer
Make TikTok videos vertical at 9:16. TikTok’s ad specs set the minimum at 540 x 960 pixels; most creators export 1080 x 1920. TikTok also accepts 16:9 and 1:1, but vertical fills the screen. For in-feed ads TikTok takes MP4, MOV, MPEG, 3GP or AVI up to 500 MB and up to 10 minutes, and it publishes safe-zone templates to keep text clear of the buttons.

Read on 10 October 2026. TikTok publishes minimums, not a recommended 1080 x 1920; safe zones come as templates, not pixel values. Upload limits for organic posts are on TikTok’s support pages, which did not load for us.

Keep it readable
Use TikTok’s safe zones
TikTok’s ad specs include downloadable safe-zone templates; the safe area depends on the ratio, caption length and format.
Centre the face and text
The caption, username and buttons cover the bottom and right side. Keep the hook in the middle.
Shoot vertical
Cropping a horizontal video to 9:16 loses detail. Film vertical from the start.
Length
How long a TikTok can be is a separate limit; see How long can short videos be.
