The short answer

The best social media content ideas come from what your audience already searches and watches. The platforms show it for you: TikTok Creative Center lists trending hashtags by industry, YouTube Studio’s Trends tab shows your audience’s top searches and content gaps for Shorts, Pinterest Trends shows two years of search trends, and Google Trends shows interest over time. Pick ideas that fit your brand, then make your own take.

A weekly idea routine

  1. 01

    Collect 20 candidates

Ten minutes in each tool above, noting anything your audience would care about.

  2. 02

Keep the ones only you can make

Cut ideas that do not fit your brand or that you cannot add a real take to.

  3. 03

    Match each to a format

    A how-to, a myth, a before-and-after, a reaction. A proven format makes an idea easier to land.

  4. 04

    Put them on the calendar

One idea per slot, with the hook written first.

The sources

Read on 8 October 2026 from each company’s own help pages. Instagram’s trends view is described from Meta’s April 2023 announcement, the latest primary source we found.

The platforms’ own idea tools

  • TikTok Creative Center

Trending hashtags you can filter by industry and time frame, each with a trendline, related videos, audience insights and regional popularity.

  • YouTube Studio, Trends tab

Your audience’s top searches over 28 days, breakout videos, recent videos and content gaps for Shorts. The older Inspiration tab is being retired from August 2026 in favour of Ask Studio.

  • Pinterest Trends

Up to two years of top search, save and shopping trends by region, plus audience-specific trends from the last 90 days for business accounts.

  • Google Trends

Interest in a search over time on a 0 to 100 scale, from a sample of Google searches. Good for timing, not for exact volumes.

  • Instagram Reels trends

Instagram’s trends view shows top trending songs on Reels and how many times each audio has been used.
