The short answer

Nobody can make a video go viral on demand, but TikTok says what moves a video further on For You: Performance and engagement, above all watch time. Hook viewers in the first 3 seconds, hold them with a change on screen every few seconds, give them a reason to act, post original videos regularly, and use your community’s topics, hashtags and sounds so the right people see it.

Go for it, step by step

  1. 01

Pick one format that already works

A format your audience already watches to the end, with your own angle. Joining a trend needs “a unique take to stand out”.

  2. 02

    Open on the payoff

The first 3 seconds decide whether people stay: the result, the question or the surprise first, context after.

  3. 03

    Keep it moving

Cut dead air and change the shot, text or angle every few seconds.

  4. 04

    End with one action

Ask a question to comment on, or point to part two. Never bribe: bait for likes, follows or gifts makes a video ineligible.

  5. 05

Label it for the right people

Relevant hashtags, sounds and topics from your community, plus the AI label if the video shows realistic AI people.

  6. 06

    Repeat what held people

Check retention, average watch time and watched full video, then make the next one in the format that held best.

What TikTok tells creators

  • Hook in 3 seconds

“It’s important to hook your viewers within the first 3 seconds”: ask a question, show a timer, or tease the end result first.

  • Hook, Hold, Act

TikTok’s repeatable format. To hold, “change something on screen every few seconds”.

  • Watch time drives it

“Watch time is a key driver”: TikTok weighs time spent watching more heavily than other signals.

  • Volume helps the system learn

More videos give the recommendation system more chances to place you, but “a steady stream of high-quality content is always better than rushing”.

  • Longer than a minute

TikTok’s audience advice is to “create content that’s longer than one minute”, and only videos of a minute or more earn Creator Rewards.

  • Post before the peak

On your most active days, post “at most, two hours before the activity peaks”, per your own analytics.

What caps your views

  • Reposts and slight edits

Unoriginal or reused material is ineligible for For You; sped-up clips, filters or stickers on someone else’s video do not count as original.

  • Engagement bait

“Like for part two”-style manipulation for likes, follows or gifts is ineligible for For You.

  • Repeatedly unsuitable posts

Accounts that keep posting content unsuitable for For You stop appearing there and get harder to find in search.

  • Deleting fast

A slow start does not mean a rule was broken: TikTok says low views do not necessarily mean a violation, and videos can be found through search later.

  • One great video, then nothing

Virality is a numbers game TikTok plays per video. Showing up daily with an original is what gives each one a chance; Percify makes that daily video for you with your own face and voice.
