Social media audit: a checklist
A structured review of every account you run: what to check, in what order, and what to do with what you find.

The short answer
A social media audit is a structured review of all your social media accounts that compiles and analyses how each performs. List every account, check each profile is consistent and complete, find your top-performing posts and channels, compare yourself with competitors, and understand who your audience is on each platform. Then keep what works, fix what is broken and drop what nobody watches.
Updated

The audit, step by step
- 01
List every account
Including old and forgotten ones. Note the handle, owner and who has the login.
- 02
Check each profile
Profile image, bio, username, links, pinned posts and verification: consistent across platforms and pointing to the right place.
- 03
Find what performs
Your top posts per platform by reach and engagement, and which channels bring visits or sales.
- 04
Benchmark competitors
Two or three accounts you compete with: how often they post, what formats, what gets engagement.
- 05
Understand your audience
Who follows you on each platform, from each platform’s analytics.
- 06
Review access and rules
Who can post, who approves, and whether old team members still have access.
What to do with it
Double down
Make more of the formats and topics in your top posts.
Fix the profiles
Broken links and outdated bios cost every visitor who lands there.
Drop dead channels
An account you cannot post to regularly is better archived than abandoned.
Set a cadence
Decide how often you will post on each platform you keep, and plan it.

Your questions, answered
Short answers to what people ask next.
A structured review of all your social media accounts that compiles and analyses how each performs across platforms, so you can decide what to keep, fix or drop.
Often enough to act on it: quarterly suits most brands, plus whenever you change strategy or team.
Every account, the state of each profile, your top-performing posts and channels, competitor benchmarks, your audience on each platform, and who has access.
Reach, engagement rate, follower growth, and visits or sales from each channel. Compare each with its own past, not only with other accounts.
Make more of what works, fix broken profiles, archive channels you cannot keep up, and set a posting cadence for the rest.
If the audit shows you post too rarely, Percify makes a short video for your brand every day and posts the ones you approve, so the cadence holds.
